Tropical forests

By Ann - Posted on 01 October 2008

It is well known that all tropical forests are susceptible to climate change impacts. Indeed the Amazon forest has been the subject of fairly dire warnings about how it could die under global warming. now these predictions of climate-induced doom have been exacerbated by new figures on tropical deforestation.
Worse still Brazil's own government has been named as the worst illegal logger of Amazon forests by one of its own departments. The six largest deforested areas since 2005 all belonged to Institute of Colonization and Agrarian Reform (Incra), a government department which distributes land to the poor.
