Bird species

While birds, migration paths and species extinction may not always be the focus of community consultation, there are clear connections. Terry Root notes that if the temperature rises another two degrees because of climate change/warming, then 20% of the known species could be marked for extinction, and 40% if the temperature increases by 4 degrees Celsius. She asks if triage is an appropriate tool to evalaute which species may be saveable and which not. "Should we start now", she asks in a recent plenary talk at a meeting of the American Ornithologists Union in Portland (4-9 August 2008).
